Designed With Constructability In Mind

Our engineering staff consists of structural, civil and mechanical engineers as well as an array of supporting CAD draftsmen who design with constuctability in mind. This part of the MAB&C team can serve many roles. They can be the lead on design/build projects or work hand-in-hand with the client's engineering staff and outside process engineers to create final construction drawings.

Engineering Involvement

During the engineering phase of projects, our engineering team will:
  1. Scheduling - Assist in the development of a detailed project engineering schedule which is coordinated with construction's efforts as well as the owner's requirements in terms of priorities. It will incorporate realistic activity sequences and duration, allocation of labor and materials, processing of shop drawings and samples, and delivery of long lead items.
  2. Construction Budget - Work with the estimating department to update the budget at the end of the schematic engineering phase and assist in refining the estimate for the owner's approval as the development of the drawings and specifications proceed.
  3. Value Engineering and Constructability - Attend regular meetings with the owner's engineering department during the conceptual and preliminary design to advise onsite use and improvements and selection of materials and equipment. Recommendations will be provided on construction feasibility, availability of materials and labor, time requirements for installation and construction, and factors related to cost including alternative design or materials, preliminary budgets and possible economies.
  4. Coordination of Contract Documents - Develop a system of recording document progress and changes throughout the engineering stage. Drawings and specifications are reviewed as they are prepared and alternatives recommended whenever details affect construction feasibility or schedules.
  5. Long-Lead Items - Recommend the procurement of long-lead items to ensure their delivery by the required dates for installation or construction use.
  6. Purchasing / Expediting - Assist the Purchasing Department in the acquisition of materials, equipment and supplies for the project.

Critical Interface

Our engineers interface with most - if not all - departments within MAB&C's multifaceted organization whether it be estimating, purchasing, expediting, scheduling or project management. They are able to integrate schedule, budget and project parameters for the owner as well as intervene for conflict resolution as required.

Drawing Requirements

Prior to the start of each project a determination is made on the type of drawing and level of detail required. All "as-built" drawings and documents, both hard copy and electronic media, are furnished to the owner upon completion of a project.

Construction Disciplines

Experienced planners in our construction group provide expertise on specialty rigging, heavy lifting and other construction disciplines. They will develop site-specific plans and procedures and select the appropriate heavy-lift cranes, temporary supports and other equipment needed to erect large components driven by experience and safety first technologies.

Air Pollution Control Experience

Mid-Atlantic Boiler & Chimney, Inc.'s individual experience includes the erection of many emission SCR's and scrubbers / absorbers for our customers in the power industry. MAB&C has years of individual experience in fabricating and erecting air pollution control equipment. These technologies help remove SO2, acid gasses, heavy metals, particulates and other pollutants from plant emissions. Our normal scope of work on these projects includes the detail design engineering, shop fabrication and field erection of the absorber/scrubber vessel and the other tanks and vessels required in the emissions reduction process.
